Valuable Links For Your Life-Nov 23-2008

Published November 23rd, 2008

Just wanted to wish an upcoming happy Thanksgiving to my American friends out there this week!  Aside from all of the food, I hope everyone gets a chance to think about all of the things they have to be grateful for–even though many people are facing some really tough times right now.

The site participated in two great carnivals this week.  Thanks to both of them for including my article 8 Reasons Why I Will Always Cook at Home. The posts I’ve highlighted from each carnival are the ones that really hit home with me this week.

The Financial Wellness Project did a wonderful job of hosting a “Affected By the Recession” edition of the Festival of Frugality.  This is the first carnival I read every week, and such a long-running blog carnival because of the quality of the contributors, and the sense of community bloggers feel by participating and reading about other people’s experiences. On to my picks:

  • My Family’s Money writes of something that is near and dear to our hearts, Steward recently logged his 1000th mile bike commuting!  Congrats :) The year we sent my husband to London, England for teacher’s college, he brought a bike as his primary mode of transportation.  London has an extremely high cost of living, and the daily commuting he did on his bike to go back and forth between his residence and his teaching assignments saved us over $2000 that year.
  • Student Scrooge has come through for us with a post on 5 Great Websites for Scoring Cheap Airfare. In the age of technology, and lightning-fast changes in seat prices, we need all the help we can get. Thanks for putting this together Richard!

The Carnival of Money Stories was hosted this week by Ask Mr, Credit Card–I loved the money myths theme! There were many great stories this week, but these were my faves:

  • Donna Friedman over at Smart Spending writes What if a friend were losing her home? Donna gave with an open heart, something more important than the money itself, and all other material things. What can I say, except that this puts a smile on my face, and is what I believe living your life to the fullest is really about.

Have a great week!
