When technology goes bad…
Published September 20th, 2008Dear readers,
I’m currently writing this post from a terminal at my public library. Why? Two nights ago my laptop started making strange whirring noises and some kind of a disk boot error message came up. After several attempts at re-starting, it eventually worked. I had a bad feeling that the hand-me-down laptop from my brother was near the end of its useful lifespan. I called my brother (resident family tech expert), and explained what was going on, he suspected badness as well, and told me to get all of my data backed up ASAP. He recommended trying to defragment the hard drive and do a deep system virus scan, but to no avail.
We called the Future Shop in the nearest city and planned on bringing it in the next day after work. Sadly, just one day later it will not boot up, and all of my data is trapped inside
I am on the hunt for a new computer, and will have to get some tech people to try to recover the data from the old laptop. I’m sorry to say that it will be a few days before I’ll be fully functional with the site. I will still stop at the library every day to check my messages and any comments you leave on the site, but there won’t be another new post until next weekend.
I apologize to all of my loyal readers for the inconvenience, and I will make another posting as soon as I am back up and running…now off to research laptops…
Sincerely,
Amanda

The library is a wonderful option if my laptop every goes down. I don’t know what I would do if I lost internet access. Kind of like losing power or not having food
I hope you consider a Mac laptop when you do your research. I have both a mac and 3 pc’s and love that I never receive the blue screen on my mac.

@Scott: Thanks for the comment, the world of Macs is so foreign to me, but I’ve heard many good things about them so I will definitely look into it! Not having the internet at home kind of feels like I’m roughing it camping…
Sincerely,
Amanda
