The Best of The Weekly Money Carnivals
Published June 26th, 2008The Festival of Frugality traveled to Broke Grad Student this week, who did a great job of hosting with a theme to welcome summer! I always love this carnival, but these fine posts really caught my attention:
- Living Almost Large wrote a post exposing the Secret Food Increase. I noticed this a couple of months ago, I can imagine it must really be affecting people with large families, and some who don’t shop the sales, since we end up paying a higher unit price for many items.
- Greener Pastures got creative with The Frugal Olympics-Going for the Gold, a great list for those who are willing be motivated!
- Not Made of Money says Find Grocery Savings in Your Own Back Yard…I couldn’t agree more.
A big shout out to Mrs. Micah, who hosted a Buffy-inspired Vampire Slaying Edition of the Carnival of Personal Finance this week. These two posts were my faves this week:
- Passive Family Income debates with Is it Frugal or is it Stealing? Some food for thought here, including a lame but guilty confession from me in the comments section
- Mighty Bargain Hunter wrote a post that gives pause to any of us who may have gained some extra weight in Ten Ways Being Fat Costs Money…the connection between being overweight and how your employer treats you is something I had honestly never even thought about until now…it certainly must affect a lot of people.
This was my first time participating in the Carnival of Money Stories. It was hosted over at The Dividend Guy, and I read all of the articles, but these ones really stood out for me:
- The Personal Financier’s post Creative Ways Airlines Cut Fuel Costs Provide 7 Invaluable Lessons on How to Save Money was very interesting to read, and provided some concepts that are highly relevant to the management of our personal finances.
- Free From Broke wrote a helpful post for all of those visiting Orlando and Disney this summer, or in the future. The post is called Our Disney World Vacation, and it’s worth checking out!
This week My Investing Blog hosted a very informative Money Hacks Carnival. The theme was the history of money! My top picks were:
- Bankaholic’s post with 8 Tips for Saving Money and Your Health, this one had a few points that many people don’t think about!
- Investing Lessons talks about Seeking Therapy For Debt Management, hopefully this post will be helpful to someone–everybody needs a bit of help sometimes.
Well, that was a handful! Have a great weekend, I will see you after Canada Day. I’ll be away for a few days, but I’ve set up a special post for Monday for those of you who are just getting to know me…it’s one of my favourites…see you next week!
