Valuable Links For Your Life-Broken Ankle Edition-Sep 1-08
Published September 1st, 2008
The last two weeks have pushed my organizational skills to a new limit. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago my husband fell, broke his ankle, and lost consciousness while working at home. Thankfully, I was in the house at the time, and got him to the hospital via ambulance, but it was pretty scary. Between my long work commute, the daily website maintenance, and picking up the extra slack at home, I haven’t had as much time to write new articles over the last little while. I’ll write a post later on this week about the changes that ensued, and how I’m dealing with them.
This week and last, the site has participated in two carnivals. I spent several hours yesterday and this morning going through the posts and picking the ones that I feel Value For Your Life readers will get the most out of. Without further delay, here are the best posts I’ve read recently:
Last week, Broke Grad Student wrapped up the Summer Olympics with an appropriately-themed Carnival of Personal Finance. Of the great practical career and financial advice, I felt these posts stood out:
- Fire Finance’s post Want to Become a Millionaire? Follow the YAWN Philosophy is right up my alley. This post really struck a chord with me because I believe strongly in giving back to others–and not simply with money–I have and always will continue to donate my time and energy.
- Clever Dude wrote an interesting post from his personal experience called Riches Do Not Equal Prosperity. This was a great read, not only because of the post, but because of the discussion in the comments that followed. I learned a long time ago not to judge others since you can never really comment on someone else’s situation unless you live it.
This week, One Caveman’s Financial Journey took a turn at hosting a Labour Day edition of the Carnival of Personal Finance. This yummy barbecue-themed offering included some terrific posts, and these two were my faves:
- Free From Broke examines What is Raising a Child Worth-We’re Going to One Income. I applaud their courageous decision to go down to one income, so one of them can become a stay-at-home parent. A tough financial decision, but since their hearts are truly in it, it sounds like the dividends of a richer family life will be worth the sacrifice.
- The Wisdom Journal also wrote a post that I thoroughly enjoyed: The X Files and Your Money: Strange Similarities? I especially agree to the point that “I Want to Believe”.
Well that’s all for now, hope everyone is enjoying a relaxing Labour Day!
